Permobil and real accessibility

This is what real accessibility looks like.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining a panel at Permobil in Sundsvall, where they launched their new Workplace Accessibility Guide and gave us a tour of what might be the world’s most accessible factory. And it’s not just modern or stylish—it’s smart, thoughtful, and fully inclusive.

I felt it the moment I arrived: it was raining, but I could get out of the car under a covered area—finally avoiding a soaked wheelchair cushion. It may sound like a small thing, but for me, it meant everything. That’s the kind of design that understands real-life needs.

During the seminar, I spoke alongside Claes Hultling and Nadia Smedeland moderated by Linda Nilsson, about what it takes to create truly inclusive workplaces. And let me be clear—this isn’t about helping out or being kind. It’s about recognizing the vital skills and value people with disabilities bring. In today’s world, we simply can’t afford to exclude that talent.

And Permobil’s commitment doesn’t stop at the workplace. They’ve also just certified their company gym at the highest ELITE level under the ADfitness accessibility standard. This week, we installed some of our most innovative equipment there—giving employees with disabilities the same opportunity to train and stay healthy as everyone else.

Because inclusion isn’t just about your job. It’s about your health, your freedom, and being part of every part of life.

Permobil is now our very first ELITE-certified gym—and I’ll be sharing more exciting news about future initiatives in the coming weeks!

Thank you for having me. I’m deeply impressed—by the building, the vision, and above all, the people.

(P.S. I also had the chance to test the Permobil wheelchair I’ll be receiving soon—but that’s a story for another post!)
