Shana Tova

This week Jews around the world celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. It’s a time to reflect on the year that has passed and to look ahead with hope for what’s to come.

The traditional greeting is “Shana Tova”, meaning “a good year.” It is a simple but powerful wish — for renewal, light, and strength in the year ahead.

But as we enter the Jewish year of 5786, it is impossible to ignore the reality we face. Antisemitism is rising across Europe, leaving many Jewish families questioning their safety and their future. And while Jewish communities gather to celebrate, many hostages remain in Gaza, denied freedom and dignity.

For me, Shana Tova is not only about celebration, but also about determination. It’s about choosing light in the face of darkness, hope in the face of hate, and never forgetting those who cannot share this New Year with their families.

May 5786 be a year where Jewish life in Europe stands strong and proud. A year of resilience, unity, and courage. A year where the hostages return home — and where Europe finds the strength to stand firmly against antisemitism.

Shana Tova to you all.
