Bridges the gap between sports, entrepeneurship and international diplomacy
David Lega’s career is a testament to his ability to excel in diverse fields, from sports and entrepreneurship to international politics and human rights advocacy. His journey began as a Paralympic swimmer, where he not only achieved numerous world championship titles but also set 14 world records. One of the highlights of his athletic career was receiving the prestigious Triumph of the Human Spirit award at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, an honor that recognized not only his performance but also his determination and resilience. These experiences in sports formed the foundation of David’s drive to tackle new challenges in life, shaping his personal philosophy of overcoming obstacles and inspiring others to do the same.
Following his successful swimming career, David transitioned into the world of entrepreneurship and leadership. As a motivational speaker and business leader, he ventured into several industries, including mobile technology, fashion, and publishing. He founded companies such as LegaWear and became a well-known speaker on leadership and personal development. In 2004, David was named The Outstanding Young Person of the World, a prestigious acknowledgment shared with figures like Orson Welles, John F. Kennedy, and Elvis Presley, highlighting his exceptional contributions to society at a young age.
David’s commitment to making a difference led him into the world of politics, where he took on significant leadership roles. He served as Deputy Mayor of Gothenburg and later as Vice Party Leader of Sweden’s Christian Democrats. His political work expanded internationally when he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2019. During his time in the European Parliament, David worked on vital global issues, serving on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Subcommittee on Human Rights. He played an instrumental role in advocating for children’s rights as the co-chair of the Parliament’s Intergroup on Children’s Rights, ensuring that the most vulnerable have a voice in European policymaking.
Committed to making a difference
In addition to his political work, David has been deeply committed to combating antisemitism and advocating for the Abraham Accords, the historic peace agreements in the Middle East. His role as a Senior Adviser to the European Jewish Association allows him to work closely with Jewish communities across Scandinavia, promoting religious freedom and fighting antisemitism. David’s passion for standing up for persecuted minorities, imprisoned journalists, and those suffering from conflicts and wars has been a defining part of his life’s work. Whether advocating for human rights in international forums or working to strengthen Jewish communities, David’s mission has always been to amplify the voices of those who struggle to be heard.
Across all areas of his career, from civil society to the business world and politics, David’s commitment remains the same: to give back to society and make a positive, lasting difference. His work continues to inspire, both in Sweden and on the global stage, as he strives to build a more just and compassionate world.
